Arts Coalition plans January fundraiser

Posted on: 2017-12-04

Donations of gently used art are being collected by the Spring Green Area Arts Coalition to sell at its annual recycled art auction, Art Out Of the Closet, on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Wisconsin Riverside Resort.  The fund-raising event will run from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.

From now until January 21, donations of professional quality art in good condition--paintings, sculptures, prints, photography, jewelry, pottery, textiles, lithographs and glass--are being accepted at the Spring Green General Store, 137 S. Albany Street, in Spring Green.  Forms at the collection site request donors to describe the items for auction and suggest a fair market value. There is a tax benefit for the year of donation.  Donations will be accepted at the General Store during business hours until January 22.

Creative Canvases, eight-inch by eight-inch squares of original art created by area artists, have been a popular part of the event in recent years and will be also featured again.  To acquire one of these canvases created by local artists,  $30 gift certificates will soon be available at Arcadia Books, the Spring Green General Store, Nina’s Variety Store, Convivio, and the Shoppe at Herbs, Spices & More. Any certificates not sold in advance will be available for purchase at the event for $35 each. Holders of certificates may redeem them for Creative Canvases during the January 28 event.

Creative Canvases for Young Artists will also be included in the January 28 event. This feature will include an exhibition of sponsored 6-inch by 6-inch artwork produced by budding artists in the community below high school age. Canvases can be sponsored at a cost of $15. Sponsors may claim the square created by their sponsored artist after canvases are displayed at Art Out of the Closet.

Wisconsin Artists Gallery, 143 S. Washington Street, Spring Green, will host young artists in its studio space on Sunday, January 7 and Sunday, January 21 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Upon presentation of the $15 sponsorship registration, participating young artists will be supplied with a blank canvas and be given access to in-studio art supplies, and they will be able to begin work on their projects.

Alternative arrangements can be made to pick up the young artist canvases and pay for sponsorships by contacting Jen Jensen by phone at 608-459-0243 or by email: jennjen6@gmail.com.

The event schedule will be as follows: Doors will open at 1:30 pm; the drawing for selections of Creative Canvases will begin at 3 pm; bidding on the Silent Auction will close at 4 pm. A dance performance is scheduled for 2 pm.

Proceeds from the January 28 event support the Spring Green Area Arts Coalition’s sponsorship of art and cultural programs that benefit communities in the River Valley.  Monies raised help to meet match requirements of an annual grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board.
